Small Groups Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Small Group?

A Small Group is a gathering of two or more people who meet regularly to grow in their relationship with God and with one another. Small Groups provide an environment where people are known, cared for, encouraged, prayed for, and challenged to grow spiritually.

Through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and meaningful conversations, Small Groups help people apply God's Word to everyday life and experience authentic Christian community.

Small Groups are open to people of all ages and stages of life. Whether you are new to the faith, exploring Christianity, or have been walking with Christ for years, there is a place for you in a Small Group.

Because our church family is spread throughout the region, many of our groups meet in homes, creating a welcoming and personal environment where relationships can flourish. We also encourage families and individuals to consider hosting a Small Group and inviting others to join them.

Where do Small Groups meet?

Most Small Groups meet in homes throughout the surrounding communities. Some groups may also meet at the church, online, or in other appropriate community locations.

Our goal is to make Small Groups accessible and convenient so that everyone can find a group that fits their schedule and location.

How often do Small Groups meet?

Most groups meet weekly or bi-weekly during seasonal sessions throughout the year.

FavorLife typically offers Small Group sessions during the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Sessions generally run for six to eight weeks, followed by a short break between semesters.

This seasonal approach allows participants flexibility while maintaining meaningful relationships and spiritual growth.

How long does a Small Group meeting last?

Most Small Group meetings last between 60 and 90 minutes.

A typical gathering includes time for fellowship, discussion, Bible study, prayer, and building relationships with one another.

What happens during a Small Group meeting?

While each group has its own personality and style, most meetings follow a simple format:

  • Fellowship and conversation
  • Bible study and discussion
  • Prayer and encouragement
  • Sharing life experiences and personal growth

Many groups also participate in service projects, outreach opportunities, social activities, or ministry initiatives outside of their regular meeting time.

What do Small Groups study?

Most Small Groups discuss and reinforce the messages and biblical principles taught during our Sunday worship services. Discussion guides and reflection questions are provided to help members engage with God's Word and apply it to daily life.

At times, groups may also study approved discipleship resources, Bible studies, books, or special curriculum provided by the church leadership.

Our goal is to ensure that all groups remain biblically grounded while helping members grow in spiritual maturity.

How much Bible knowledge do I need?

None.

Small Groups are designed to be welcoming environments where people can learn and grow together regardless of their level of biblical knowledge.

Some participants may be reading the Bible for the first time, while others may have studied Scripture for many years. We believe that people grow best when they learn from one another and share different perspectives and experiences.

You do not need to have all the answers to participate—just a willingness to learn and grow.

Do I have to be a member of FavorLife Church to join a Small Group?

No.

While Small Groups are an important part of life at FavorLife Church, you do not need to be a church member to participate. We welcome anyone who desires to grow spiritually, build relationships, and explore God's Word in a supportive environment.

What if I miss a meeting?

We understand that work schedules, family commitments, vacations, and unexpected events happen.

While regular attendance helps build strong relationships and spiritual momentum, occasional absences are expected. We encourage members to stay connected with their group leaders and participate as consistently as possible.

Can I join a Small Group after the session has started?

Yes. Our Small Groups welcome new participants throughout the session. Even if you missed the first few meetings, we encourage you to join. You'll be warmly welcomed and quickly become part of the group experience.

Are there Small Groups for different ages or life stages?

Currently, most of our Small Groups are open to people of all ages and life stages. We value the opportunity to learn from one another and build relationships across generations.

As we continue to grow, we look forward to offering additional groups tailored to specific interests, life stages, and needs. For now, our focus is helping people connect, grow spiritually, and do life together in authentic Christian community.

How do I choose the right Small Group?

We encourage you to prayerfully consider a group that best fits your schedule, location, season of life, or interests.

The most important step is simply getting connected. You can always explore different groups until you find one that feels like the right fit.

Can I start or lead a Small Group?

Absolutely!

One of our goals is to continually develop new leaders and expand opportunities for connection and discipleship. If you have a desire to host or lead a Small Group, we will provide a short training, resources, coaching, and support to help you succeed.

You do not need to be a Bible expert to lead a Small Group—just a growing follower of Christ who is willing to facilitate discussion, care for people, and help others grow in their faith.

Why should I join a Small Group?

Because God designed us to grow in community.

Small Groups provide opportunities to build meaningful friendships, deepen your faith, receive encouragement, pray with others, serve together, and experience the support of a spiritual family.

Simply put, life is better together.

We invite you to find a Small Group and experience the joy of growing in Christ alongside others.
