What Can I Expect in a Small Group?
At FavorLife Church, we believe spiritual growth happens best in relationships.
Our desire is that everyone who belongs to the FavorLife family is connected to a Small Group. Small Groups are where faith becomes personal, friendships become meaningful, and biblical truth becomes practical. They are places of fellowship, encouragement, prayer, support, and spiritual growth as we navigate the joys and challenges of everyday life together.
Small Groups provide opportunities to share life with others—the good times, the difficult times, and everything in between. The Bible says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17). God designed us to grow in community, not in isolation.
Our Small Groups are modeled after the New Testament church as described in Acts 2:42–47. Here is what you can expect when you join a Small Group:
1. Small Groups Study God's Word Together
The early believers devoted themselves to learning and applying God's truth. Acts 2:42 tells us they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching.
At FavorLife, our Small Groups are designed to help members deepen their understanding of Scripture and apply biblical principles to everyday life. To strengthen spiritual growth and church-wide discipleship, our groups will often discuss and build upon the messages taught during our Sunday services. Discussion guides, reflection questions, and practical applications will help facilitate meaningful conversations and personal growth.
Our goal is not simply to gain more knowledge, but to experience life transformation through God's Word.
2. Small Groups Share Life Together
Acts 2:42 tells us the early believers devoted themselves to fellowship. They were committed to doing life together, building authentic relationships, and caring for one another.
Biblical fellowship is much more than casual conversation or social interaction. It is a commitment to walk alongside one another through life's victories, struggles, celebrations, and challenges.
Small Groups provide a welcoming environment where friendships are formed, burdens are shared, encouragement is given, and genuine Christian community is experienced. They become places where people are known, valued, supported, and loved.
3. Small Groups Pray Together
Prayer was a central part of the early church, and it remains central to our Small Groups today.
When believers gather to pray, God works in powerful ways. Small Groups provide a safe and caring environment where members can share prayer requests, celebrate answered prayers, seek wisdom, and support one another through intercession.
As we pray together, our faith is strengthened, our hearts are encouraged, and our dependence upon God deepens. Prayer not only changes circumstances—it changes us.
4. Small Groups Serve and Minister Together
Acts 2:45 describes believers caring for one another and meeting practical needs within the community.
Small Groups create opportunities to demonstrate Christ's love through acts of service, compassion, encouragement, and generosity. Whether supporting a member in need, serving within the church, or reaching into the community, Small Groups become a practical expression of God's love in action.
Together, we can make a greater impact than we could alone.
5. Small Groups Worship Together
The early church regularly gathered to praise and worship God. Worship is more than singing songs on Sunday morning—it is a lifestyle of honoring God with our hearts, our actions, and our relationships.
In Small Groups, worship happens as we pray together, study God's Word, encourage one another, share testimonies, and celebrate God's faithfulness. These moments help us keep Christ at the center of our lives throughout the week.
6. Small Groups Reach Others Together
Acts 2:47 tells us that as the believers lived out their faith together, the Lord continued to add people to His church.
Healthy Small Groups naturally become places where people invite friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors to experience authentic Christian community. They create opportunities for others to encounter God's love, hear His truth, and become part of His family.
As groups grow, they may multiply and help launch new groups, creating even more opportunities for people to connect, grow, and experience life in Christ.
