HOW TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR PROBLEMS (Pt 1)
James 1:2-6, 12
Mike Prah

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:2-6 (NIV)

“Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know” James 1:2, 3a (NIV)

 I. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROBLEMS

 1. PROBLEMS ARE INEVITABLE

“Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trails of many kinds, because you know …” James 1:2 (NIV)

“Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.” 1 Peter 4:12 (NLT)

 2. PROBLEMS ARE UNPREDICTABLE

“Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trails…” James 1:2 (NIV)

"Face" in Greek  = “per-ee-pip'-to” means  "to fall into unexpectedly"

 3. PROBLEMS ARE OF MANY KINDS

Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trials of many kinds …” James 1:2 (NIV)

Jesus: “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows …” John 16:33 (NLT)

 4. PROBLEMS ARE PURPOSEFUL

“Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” James 1:2-3 (NIV)

“When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives don’t resent them as intruders. Realize that they come to test your faith and to produce in you the quality of endurance.” James 1:2-3 (PHILIPPS)

              BENEFITS OF PROBLEMS

“Consider it pure joy … whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance … so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4 (NIV)

PROBLEMS PURIFY MY FAITH

"You know that the testing of your faith..." James 1:3b (NIV)

"When He has tested me, I will come forth as gold” Job 23:10 (NIV)

PROBLEMS DEVELOP MY PATIENCE

"... The testing of your faith develops perseverance..." James 1:3 (NIV)

PROBLEMS HELP ME GROW

“The testing of your faith produces perseverance … so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:3-4 (NIV)

God's #1 Purpose in my life: TO MAKE ME LIKE JESUS!

“We know that God causes everything to work together  for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son” Romans 8:28-29 (NLT)

II. HOW TO HANDLE YOUR PROBLEMS

 1. REJOICE

"Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials ..." James 1:2a (NIV)

“I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising Him. I will praise Him for what He has done; may all who are oppressed listen and be glad! Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness;  let us praise His name together!” Psalm 34:1-3 (NLT)

 2. PRAY FOR WISDOM

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” James 1:5 (NIV)

 3. RELAX BY TRUSTING GOD

"When he asks, he must believe and not doubt ..." James 1:6 (NIV)

The result:

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12, NLT
