STEPS TO RECOVERY, RENEWAL & BREAKTHROUGH - 2 Chronicles 7:14-15

Mike Prah | favorlife.org

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NIV)

 1. I MUST DEMONSTRATE A HUMBLE ATTITUDE TOWARD GOD

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves” 2 Chronicles 7:14a (NIV)

“Be humble under God’s powerful hand so He will lift you up when the right time comes.” 1 Peter 5:6 (NCV)

“You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. …The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” Psalm 51:16, 17 (NLT)

BENEFITS OF HUMILITY

  • Humility Leads to God’s Guidance

God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.” Psalm 25:9 (NIV)

  • God Rewards Humility With Favor

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” James 4:6 (NIV)

“Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.” Proverbs 29:23 (NLT)

  • Humility is the Path to True Greatness

“I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.” Luke 18:14 (NLT/GN)

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant” Matt. 20:26 (NIV)

2. I MUST DEMONSTRATE A SENSE OF URGENCY IN SEEKING AFTER GOD

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face …” 2 Chronicles 7:14b (NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11, 13 (NLT)

BENEFITS OF DILIGENTLY SEEKING AFTER GOD

  • Seeking After God Gives Us the Benefit of God’s Protection

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers.  He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go.” Psalm 91:1, 3-4, 10-11 (NLT)

  • Seeking After God Gives Us the Benefit of God’s Provision

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

“The LORD is good to those who depend on Him, to those who seek Him.” Lamentations 3:25 (NLT+NIV)

  • Seeking After God Gives Us the Benefit of God’s Presence

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13 (NIV)

  • Seeking After God Gives Us the Benefit of God’s Purpose

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)

3. WE MUST DEMONSTRATE HOLINESS

“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” Psalm 66:18 (NIV)

“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him for He will freely pardon.” Isaiah 55:6-7 (NIV)

“…The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 (NIV)
