THE WONDER OF CHRISTMAS
Christmas Series: The Wonder of Christmas - Pt 1
Mike Prah – December 5, 2021

“This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:18-22(NIV)

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel, which means “God with us”. Matthew 1:23 (NIV)

 BIG IDEA/WISDOM KEY

AT CHRISTMAS, GOD GAVE US THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF SATISFACTION: GOD’S PRESENCE, PEACE, PARDON, PURPOSEFUL LIFE

 1. AT CHRISTMAS, GOD CAME TO EARTH!

“Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God. He existed before God made anything at all, and, in fact,  Christ Himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the things we can’t; the spirit world with its kings and kingdoms, its rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ…” Colossians 1:15-16 (LB)

Jesus: “I and My Father are one.” John 10:30 (NKJV)

“Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied … Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father!  … So why are you asking me to show Him to you?  Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen Me do. If you had really known Me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him!”” John 14:8-11+7 (NLT)

2. AT CHRISTMAS, GOD CAME TO ORDINARY PEOPLE

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us …” John 1:14 (NIV)

“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.” John 1:14 (Mes)

“Therefore, it was necessary for Him to be made in every respect like us, His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then He could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people” Hebrews 2:17 (NLT)

“The shepherds went quickly and found Mary and Joseph and the baby, who was lying in a feeding trough.” Luke 2:16 (NCV)

 3. AT CHRISTMAS, GOD CAME FOR OUR BENEFIT

“This is how God showed His LOVE to us: He sent His only Son into the world so that we could have life through Him.”  1 John 4:9 (NCV)

“Jesus said, `I was born for this purpose:  I came to bring truth to the world.”  John 18:37 (LB)

Jesus: "I've come that you may have real life, and enjoy it in abundance - to the fullest, until it overflows!" John 10:10 (AMP)

“I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.”  John 12:47 (NIV)

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV)

“Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard, and all need to be made right with God by His grace, which is a free gift. They need to be made free from sin through Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:23-24 (NCV)

“As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, His mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to Him. Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want to speak to You. Jesus pointed to His disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!” Matthew 12:46-50 (NLT)
