GRACE THAT RESTORES- Pt1
RELENTLESS GRACE: GOD'S POWER TO LIVE FREE Series - Pt3
Mike Prah | October 30, 2022

"Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to You again! Give us back the joys we once had!"  Lamentations 5:21 (NLT)

 I. WHAT CAUSES BELIEVERS TO FALL AWAY?—Peter's Denial of Christ—Mark 14:27-72

 1. OVERCONFIDENCE

"Everyone else may stumble in their faith, but I will not!" Mark 14:29 (NCV)

“Be careful. If you are thinking, “Oh, I would never behave like that”—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin.” 1 Corinthians 10:12 (LB)

 2. LAZINESS

"Couldn't you stay awake with Me for one hour? Stay awake and pray for strength against temptation" Mark 14:37-38 (NCV)

 3. FEAR OF DISAPPROVAL

“Peter followed Him at a distance …” Mark 14:54a (NIV)

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety” Proverbs 29:25 (NLT)

“It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe” Proverbs 29:25 (GN)

Dangers of Being A People Pleaser

  • You miss God's purpose for your life
  • You don’t grow in your faith
  • It leads to sin.

“You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice.” Exodus 23:2 NLT

  • You lose your spiritual influence

“No one had the courage to speak favorably about Jesus in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the leaders.” John 7:13, NLT

Jesus: “Your approval or disapproval means nothing to me.” John 5:41, LB

Jesus: “I don’t try to please myself, but I try to please the One who sent me.” John 5:30 (NCV)

“If anyone is ashamed of Me and my words in this sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38 (NIV)

 4. CONVENIENCE

“Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.”  Mark 14:54 (NIV)

 GOD'S RESPONSE:

"There is NO condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1 (NLT)

II. WHY DOESN'T GOD REJECT BELIEVERS WHEN WE SIN?

1. BECAUSE GOD’S LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL

The faithful love of the Lord NEVER ends! His mercies NEVER cease. It is only the Lord’s mercies that have kept us from complete destruction.” Lamentations 3:22 (NLT+LB)

God: "If you return to Me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve Me."  Jeremiah 15:19 (NLT)
