HOW TO HANDLE SUFFERING IN LIFE -Part 1

I Peter 4:12-19

LIVING THE FAR BETTER LIFE series – Pt 6

May 16, 2021 – Mike Prah

3 Kinds of Suffering:

COMMON suffering

CARNAL suffering

CHRISTIAN suffering

“Indeed, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested and chosen you in the furnace of affliction." Isaiah 48:10 (AMP)

 1. I MUST REALIZE THAT SUFFERING IS   TO HAPPEN

“My dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful test you are suffering, as though something unusual were happening to you.” I Peter 4:12 (GN)

(Jesus) "No servant is greater is greater than his master.  If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also." John 15:20 (NIV)

"We are not fighting against human beings, but against wicked spiritual forces." Ephesians 6:12 (GN)

 2. I MUST RESPOND POSITIVELY TO SUFFERING, WHEN IT HAPPENS

“But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed” 1 Peter 4:13 (NIV)

Reasons to Rejoice In Your Suffering

 I. SUFFERING DRAWS ME  TO GOD

" ...these trials will make you partners with Christ in His suffering, and afterwards you will have the wonderful joy of sharing his glory." I Peter 4:13b (LB)

Paul: “I want you to know what a hard time we had in Asia. Our sufferings were so horrible and so unbearable that death seemed certain. In fact, we felt sure that we were going to die. But this made us stop trusting in ourselves and start trusting God, who raises the dead to life." 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 (CEV)

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings,” Philippians 3:10 (NIV/NKJV)

II. SUFFERING DISPLAYS  THROUGH MY WEAKNESS

"When people insult you because you follow Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of God is with you." 1 Peter 4:14 (NCV)
