THINGS TO STOP …

1. I CANNOT FOLLOW A CULTURE THAT DOESN’T FOLLOW GOD! 

“You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong” Exodus 23:2 (NLT) 

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” Romans 12:2 (NLT)

 2. I MUST REFUSE TO FOLLOW FRIENDS WHO ARE NOT LED BY GOD!

 “Do not let anyone lead you the wrong way. Christ is righteous. So to be like Christ a person must do what is right … anyone who continues to sin belongs to the Devil” 1 John 3:7 (NCV)

 God: “You will be my spokesperson. You are to influence them but do not let them influence you!” Jeremiah 15:19 (NLT)

 “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble” Proverbs 13:20 (NLT)

 3. I CANNOT LOOK TO OTHER SOURCES BESIDES GOD!

 “You [God] bless all who depend on You for their strength.”  Psalm 84:5a (CEV)

 “The LORD is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.” Lamentations 3:25 (NLT)

 “Never … practice black magic, fortunetelling, witchcraft, psychics, call forth the spirits of the dead or try to explain the meaning of signs or TALK WITH the spirits of dead people. The Lord hates anyone who does these things.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (GW+NCV)

 THINGS TO START AND CONTINUE …

 1. I MUST BE WILLING TO OBEY GOD

 “The Lord All-Powerful said: “You people are precious to me. I will protect you, just as parents protect an obedient child. Then everyone will see the difference between those who obey me by doing right and those who reject me by doing wrong.” Malachi 3:17-18 (CEV)

 2. I MUST RELY ON THE BIBLE

 “Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet, and a light for my path” Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

 “Guide my steps by your Word, so I will not be overcome by evil” Psalm 119:133 (NLT)

 “Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you” Galatians 1:8 (NLT)

 3. I MUST ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO CONTROL ME

 “The Spirit of the Lord God has taken control of me! He has sent me to tell the oppressed the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, and to announce freedom for prisoners and captives. This is the year when the Lord God will show kindness to us and punish our enemies” Isaiah 61:1-2 (CEV)

 “They will REBUILD the ancient ruins and RESTORE the places long devastated; they will RENEW the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations” Isaiah 61:4 (NLT)

THINGS TO STOP

• I can’t follow a culture that doesn’t follow God
• I can’t follow friends who aren’t led by God
• I cannot look to other sources for help besides God 

THINGS TO START OR CONTINUE

• I must be willing to obey God
• I must look to the word of God
• I must ask the Holy Spirit to control me 

 PRAYER POINTS

 Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” Luke 4:18-19 (NLT)

 1. PRAY FOR AN OUTPOURING OF GOD’S SPIRIT TO LEAD, GUIDE, AND CONTROL YOUR LIFE

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me” (Luke 4:18a)

 2. ASK GOD TO ANOINT YOU FOR GREATNESS & TO USE YOU FOR A NOBLE CAUSE

“The Spirit of the Lord has … anointed Me” (Luke 4:18b)

3. ASK FOR GOD’S ABUNDANT PROVISION FOR YOUR EVERY NEED, LACK, OR LIMITATION

“The Spirit of the Lord … has anointed Me [Jesus] to bring Good News to the poor” (Luke 4:18c)

 4. ASK GOD FOR DELIVERANCE FROM EVERY OPPOSITION & DIFFICULTY

“The Spirit of the Lord … has sent Me [Jesus] to proclaim that captives will be released” (Luke 4:18d)

 5. PRAY FOR WISDOM, DISCERNMENT, UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S WILL & POWER, AND DESIRE TO DO IT

“The Spirit of the Lord … has sent Me [Jesus] to proclaim that the blind will see” (Luke 4:18e)

 6. PRAY FOR FREEDOM & VICTORY – spiritually, emotionally, financially, physically, vocationally, relationally

“The Spirit of the Lord …  has sent Me … to proclaim that the oppressed will be set free” (Luke 4:18f)

 7. ASK GOD TO AMAZE YOU WITH HIS GRACE TO COVER YOU COMPLETELY

“The Spirit of the Lord … has sent Me [Jesus] … to proclaim …  that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” (Luke 4:19)
